With portable, folding, prop-enclosed drones still growing in popularity, SimToo are joining the competition with their latest launch, the brand new ‘Moment Drone‘, and DroningON are the first to fully review it.
Introducing Moment Drone…
Whilst available now via many retailers, the ‘Moment Drone’, also known as the ‘Hoshi 007PRO’ would appear to still be partially in development as the app and firmware updates are released on a regular basis, but this new drone is looking promising with a solid design, stable hover and an impressive hardware specification to allow it to compete with the Apple affiliated Hover Camera.
SimToo are best known for their efforts to compete with the DJI Phantom range with their folding ‘Dragonfly’ drone, one of the first ‘watch’ controlled drones, but it was of limited success despite still being sold today.
Moment Drone is a new direction for SimToo, but a positive sign that this manufacturer is watching the market and developing in the direction that meets consumers demands.
We have commenced dialogue with SimToo so as to feedback the output of our reviews of the new Moment Drone, we hope to have a response shortly to confirm the software, firmware and app roadmap.

The positives…
- Compact and lightweight and is quite satisfying to fly.
- The hover stability is very good indoors and outside.
- You get around 12-13 minutes flight time, just under the quoted time.
- It is quick and easy to get in the air, less than a minute.
- The ‘Return To Home’ feature works very well and is accurate.
- The photos are of exceptional quality, high resolution, sharp and containing lots of detail.
The negatives…
- Battery connector is not very well designed and has lots of room for improvement to make it easier to use.
- The mechanical 1-axis gimbal can hit the floor if it is not rotated upwards before landing, add this to the app so that when hitting auto-land, the gimbal automatically rotates to its home position.
- Introduce EIS setting into the app to allow the user to decide whether it is enabled or disabled.
- Enable the mechanical vertical axis stabilisation as it would currently appear to be hard-disabled.
- No information or feature in the app for firmware updates.
- Camera clarity for video is not good, the picture is grainy and lacking sharpness and detail.
- The drone is limited in altitude to 10m, range is also limited but by the limited power of the onboard WiFi chip to around 30m.
- There is possibly a take-off bug where the drone ascends to its maximum altitude of 10m-11m instead of 1.5m.
