SOLUTION: Unfortunately this would appear to be true based on the findings of the video to which we have linked above. It is possible that a future firmware update might update this configuration setting.
Cliff Totten produced a comprehensive video detailing his theory that the Mavic 2 Pro is “line skipping” and/or “pixel binning” when shooting video at 4K resolution. This technique significantly degrades it’s image quality.
There are many opinions as to why the software/firmware might be doing this, including overheating-avoidance, but at this time DJI are yet to respond.
Dolly-Zoom Feature Ignores Gimbal Angle…
SOLUTION: At this time the Dolly Zoom feature is working as designed, it is possible that a future firmware upgrade will alter this behaviour to meet consumer expectations.
When using the auto ‘Dolly Zoom’ feature, the Mavic 2 Zoom does not take into account the gimbal pitch angle, therefore if the gimbal is pointing downward, the drone will still only fly backwards instead of also increasing altitude. For this reason, a true ‘Dolly Zoom’ effect is only achievable with the gimbal pointing horizontally outward.
Mavic 2 Issues When Flying Above Water…
SOLUTION: These rumors are untrue and simply due to misinformed/incompetent operators. Almost all drones with underside sensors suffer from issues concerning low-level flight (below 15″) above water, a full best-practice DJI guide is also available for reference.
When using your drone above water, the underside sensors can mislead the drone into believing that it should automatically land, this is due to the reflections from the water surface confusing the optical flow (VPS) sensors.
When flying above water, it is recommended to disable the VPS system and to be cautious about descending below 15″
